Danby Choi

Do the arts and cultural sector struggle with their image/façade? Danby Choi is the founder and editor of the online journal ´Subjekt´, focused on ethics and aesthetics of the arts and culture.  We have the great honour to welcome him as one of the conference hosts, guiding us through the conference keynotes, panel sessions and discussions.

Danby provokes with his questions, creating an authentically positive conference atmosphere. He is driven by the mission to challenge and encourage practitioners across the cultural sector on discussing the ethics within their organizations.

As articulated in one of his articles: “Before everybody else begins with outlining the incredibly (even too-) big  cultural offer in Oslo, both artists and cultural workers should stop with the complaints about the lack of media coverage and media contribution towards the audiences’ interest in the arts and cultural services. The cultural journalists, who would like to make the sector a favour, should first start with a more critical questioning – as culture goes neither with the uncritical journalism nor with the incomprehensible jokes.” (access to full article in Norwegian)
